Designer Notes
The restoration and expansion of the 1892 Packer-Scott Building, with an egalitarian layout and extensive sustainable design measures, actualizes Mercy Corps' mission to foster sustainable economic development through collaboration and self-empowerment. The addition’s exterior employs a weaving motif that provides a harmonious complement to its historic counterpart, while also symbolizing Mercy Corps’ work approach. A spacious atrium that doubles as an informal meeting area is defined by a light-filled stairwell that connects the building’s levels and encourages interaction. Interior spaces have equitable access to daylight, extensive views, and natural ventilation, and ground-floor community education and meeting facilities further extend Mercy Corps' role within the community.
