Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Central Oregon
This elegant building is making a huge difference to our congregation. It not only serves as a community center, but provides daily inspiration for our spiritual life.

Client Notes
Create a building that's respectful of the land with a strong connection to nature—a vibrant home full of natural light and fresh air, with space for religious education programs that inspire curiosity and lifelong learning in people of all ages, both within our congregation and among the greater community.
Designer Notes
Inside and out, the experience of the building’s place on earth is visceral. Inspired by the region’s active volcanic geology and the 20,000-year-old lava flow that cuts right through the 12-acre site, the building—a fusion of cedar, stone, and glass— seems carved out of the land. Central to the design is a 250-seat light-filled sanctuary that opens to a social hall, emblematic of the congregation’s love of gathering.
