Enhance the civic presence of Milwaukie's downtown library and protect its surrounding city park and water resource. Prioritize sustainable, restorative design. Provide dedicated areas for adults and children, and aim for universal access, maximum flexibility, and operational efficiency.
Designer Notes
Located on a unique site at the edge of Milwaukie's downtown between a sensitive natural area, a city park, and City Hall, the design for the new Ledding Library reflects its esteemed position in Milwaukie's history and community. The library's form takes advantage of the beautiful setting, bending across the site to capture sweeping views of the neighboring forest and wetlands. Wood interiors create a warm, vibrant atmosphere that connects the interior and exterior spaces.
