Pearl West
Restrained and sophisticated, quite elegant. The sort of building that you walk past frequently, and each time appreciate this delicate understanding.

Client Notes
Create a highly marketable speculative office building that will draw creative and tech companies. Provide urban office spaces with connection to the natural environment, and a building with reverence for the district's history and character. Maximize a lean budget through design-build delivery.
Designer Notes
Through a lens of contextual response at every scale, Pearl West exhibits a sensitive understanding of its place, and contributes to the transformation of its neighborhood into a more connected, pedestrian friendly urban environment. Exterior materials respond to the neighborhood's industrial heritage: A dramatic canopy made from recycled shipping containers references warehouse loading docks, and brings changing light and shadow to the pedestrian level. A rustic dark brick, mirroring the roughness of the cobblestone streets and the variegated patina of the weathered brick facades, shimmers in the sunlight and changes with the weather, time of day, orientation, and viewpoint. Interior spaces are light-filled and offer great views.
