Thom Hacker | Essential Exploration
Thom Hacker | Essential Exploration
Essential Exploration Reception August 16th, 2023
An art exhibition showcasing the sculptural works and paintings by the late architect and teacher. Join us to celebrate the life and work of Thomas Hacker (1941-2023).
ESSENTIAL EXPLORATION
Art Exhibition is Open August 2nd – December 2nd, 2023
In addition to being the founder of Hacker Architects, Thom was an artist and maker who explored concepts of space, color, structure, proportion, and rhythm. His artistic pursuits extended beyond traditional mediums, as he skillfully crafted his own house, kayaks, and furniture.
Following his retirement from the practice of architecture, Thom created a series of paintings and sculptures exploring ideas that he had been experimenting with his entire career. The works are architectural, spatial, and mathematical. Each piece is beautiful upon first viewing, revealing a captivating order and intricate complexity upon further investigation.
Join us in commemorating Thomas Hacker's artistic legacy. Snacks and drinks will be available. Details on building access to follow.
If you cannot make the reception, but want to come by and see the works, please contact info@hackerarchitects.com.
We look forward to seeing you for our gallery reception, Essential Exploration.
A couple of notes regarding logistics:
Travel to District Office:
By Car: Unfortunately parking in our district is challenging. There is metered parking in the blocks around the building. If you are lucky, there are a few spots directly in front of our office. Consider downloading the Parking Kitty app to pay for the parking, or you can pay via credit card at the pay kiosk. If you need disability accommodations email inquiries@hackerarchitects.com and we will reach out to you with options. The closest pay-for lot is https://parkabm.com/facilities/weatherly-building-surface-lot/
By Transit: The Portland Streetcar and the #6 Bus drop off directly in front of our building. Visit Tri-Met for more details.
By Bike: We have secure on-site bike parking. You will need to text Sarah Hacker (503-816-9511) to give you access to the bike parking.
Other:
When you arrive at the building, an attentive Hacker employee will be there to welcome you. The door to the building is about 1/3 of the way down the block on the right if you are heading south on MLK. It’s not well marked until you are upon it.
There will not be a list of people that RSVPed at the door – you are free to stop by or invite a friend if you didn’t RSVP. RSVPs were only to give us a rough magnitude of order to anticipate beverages and snacks needed.
On that note, there will be alcoholic (beer/wine) and a variety of non-alcoholic drinks and light snacks.
Please email inquiries@hackerarchitects.com for additional questions. Thank you.
