Designer Notes
Embrace industry: The building is located amongst warehouses and will be a hub for fieldwork and office work alike. Materials and forms should reflect this hardy context through simple and functional gestures.
Make enduring choices: A new building is an investment in the future — of its occupants, the surrounding city and the planet. Specifying healthy, resilient and bio-based materials will promote well-being for all by reducing exposure to chemicals and managing carbon.

Encourage connection: The variety of trades, specialists and departments coming together is an opportunity to foster community and collaboration. Hubs will be designed as attractors that amplify the experience of being together.
Provide employee choice: No one position, role or person are alike. Allowing people to shape their environment will enable them to do their best work in a way that is uniquely healthy and productive.
Be authentically Salem: Public Works keeps the city running, engages its citizens and enables them to thrive. Integrating this storyline through art and installations will instill pride in the work, the city and its culture.
