Hacker Culture: Hacktivities and Hacker Hour
Hacker Culture: Hacktivies and Hacker Hour
May 29, 2024
There's a renewed sense of energy around our "Hacktivities" (Hacker fun activities), thanks to the fresh leadership of one of our newest Associate Principals, Keri Erwin. This has resulted in a broader diversity of activities and increased engagement.
We've also redefined the purpose of our all-office bi-weekly meetings, called “Hacker Hours”, placing a stronger emphasis on nurturing company culture. The vision for this hour is to create an enjoyable space that connects us and allows us to learn more about each other beyond work-related interactions.
Two recent office events exemplified this reinvigoration. In April, we celebrated Filipino Food Month with a sampling of Filipino foods (lots of Ube!) and a presentation on the history of the Philippines, which helped us understand the eclectic nature of its culinary traditions.
In May, we headed to local food carts to celebrate Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month. It was a beautiful sunny Friday in Portland, perfect for enjoying a meal from one of the AAPI countries.
Hacker Recipe Book
During the peak of the COVID lockdown, members of the Hacker team virtually collaborated to create an office recipe book. This compilation included a variety of recipes, ranging from our own family favorites to beloved recipes from cookbooks, as well as reliable options found through Google searches. It was close to devising a master plan for a potluck gathering, gathering a humble assortment of homemade comfort foods and dishes intended for sharing. These recipe books served as a precursor to the time when we could reunite in person at our District Office kitchen, providing a taste of the camaraderie and culinary delights we looked forward to sharing together again. Now, you can find digital copies of our recipe book editions below.
