Maddy Gorman

NCIDQ, IIDA

Interior Designer

An award-winning interior designer, Maddy brings over 7 years of experience to the Hacker Interiors team designing residential and commercial spaces.

Since earning her Bachelor of Interior Architecture from the University of Oregon in 2015, Maddy has contributed to a variety of projects focused on workplace design and tenant improvement. She received the "Against All Odds" Award in 2021 at the IIDA Oregon Chapter Design Excellence Awards for her Studio Building Bike Room Amenity project. Maddy is passionate about the use of healthy materials and the impacts of design on mental and physical wellbeing. Her mission is to tell a story through each project she touches, while making responsible design decisions that reduce harm from those who are manufacturing the construction materials, the people who inhabit the space, down to the workers and environment that will inevitably be affected by the deconstruction process.

The strongest form of nostalgia for Maddy is place. In her favorite childhood memories, travels, and pivotal moments, she can recall how light filters into her mind's eye, hears the atmospheric sounds, and re-experiences feelings from that moment. To her, spaces are sacred and filled with past conversations, light, color, emotion, memories, and details. She enjoys using her senses and ability to translate feeling into physical form to create memorable and evocative places within housing and workplace environments.

Outside of the studio, Maddy is heavily involved in her design community. She has held a board member seat for the IIDA Oregon Chapter since 2017 and volunteered her time to various creative initiatives such as the Student Symposium, NCIDQ Roundtable, and has represented the Interior Design profession at various local Career Fairs from elementary to college level.
