I love how welcoming it is inside, with big windows that stream in the gorgeous sunshine.

Client Notes
Design a new branch library that's unique to its neighborhood and expresses an openness to the community. Provide a variety of spaces that are welcoming to all, and that support age-appropriate library programming.

Designer Notes
Conceived as a light-filled neighborhood living room, this small corner library creates a feeling of openness and availability—an airy pavilion where the focus is on books and people. Under the shelter of an enveloping roof, a single large room—almost an extension of the street—provides a place for reading, working, and meeting. The building is designed to be both a place of the everyday and a place of the remarkable, incorporating a notable use of public art that pays reverence to the history of language, literature, and printing.
