Canyon Commons Dining Hall, George Fox University
I love the incorporation of all the natural elements, especially the wooden beams. The wall of windows doesn't feel like a wall at all, but a door to our natural neighborhood.

Client Notes
Provide a modern dining facility for round-the-clock use that gives students a comfortable place to gather and replenish throughout the day. The project needs to accommodate its fast-track design/build process, and maximize a lean budget without sacrificing user comfort and design excellence.
Designer Notes
Harnessing the beauty of the densely forested site, Canyon Commons Dining Hall cultivates connections between interior and exterior spaces and provides ample access to natural daylight and views into the forest canopy. By working with the site instead of against it, we achieved an elegantly articulated design with low cost and construction impact. The dining room includes a coffee bar, dividable space to serve many banquet functions, and a focus on organic foods, and its natural materials and light create an atmosphere that is at once modern and homey.
