College of Education Complex, University of Oregon
I can see and feel a new sense of community among students. And now that we are co-located with other disciplines, many of us have built new partnerships that will generate improved instruction and scholarship.

Client Notes
Design a facility that supports the educational endeavors of future teachers, and provides a sense of dignity befitting the various professions of education and human services. Establish visual continuity between new and existing buildings of the education complex, with priority on sustainability and accessibility.
Designer Notes
Through deep engagement with a large and diverse user group, a series of innovative and specialized learning spaces were developed to support the College's vision. Particular attention was paid to Universal Access and supporting the diverse population of the College of Education, exemplifying their mission: "making educational and social systems work for all." Access to daylight and fresh air were prioritized, as were healthy building materials and numerous other sustainable design measures. The entire complex is stitched together with a series of new and existing outdoor pathways and nodes, accented by a park-like courtyard.
