Austin Hall College of Business, Oregon State University
It feels like home to me. I'll leave my classroom and notice a chair is offset, so I fix it, like I would in my own home.

Client Notes
Create a welcoming building with a Northwest feel that encourages entrepreneurism and embodies Oregon State's land-grant roots. Located in a National Historic District, the building must respect its historic context while demonstrating innovation. To cater to the differing needs of students and faculty, Austin Hall will require a variety of learning spaces that honor individual and group study, support advanced learning practices, and provide universal accessibility to all.
Designer Notes
By creating visual connections between every floor, Austin Hall allows students and faculty to continually cross paths. The spaces become more protected and independent as you ascend, mirroring the experience of a student's path through the program. Every main interior space has a view to the outside, bringing in natural light and maintaining a connection to OSU's campus and the world beyond. The exterior takes cues from the historic buildings on campus without stylistically mimicking, resulting in a bold building that's more open and light-filled than its neighbors.
