Oregon Shakespeare Festival
Ashland, Oregon
Completed in 2002

The Thomas Theatre for the Oregon Shakespeare Festival provides a preeminent venue for the festival’s most intimate and experimental productions. Incorporating flexible acoustic and lighting systems and fully movable modular seating, the theater supports three stage configurations, accommodating an audience of 260 to 340 people. The lobbies are open and inviting, enhancing the audience’s experience by providing views of other theaters and theater goers, the active community streets of the Festival and the hills and sky across the valley.

The Thomas Theatre (formerly New Theatre) received the 2005 Chicago Athenaeum American Architecture Award; 2002 AIA Portland Chapter Honor Award; 2002 AIA Portland Chapter Craftsmanship Award; and was selected for exhibit at the PQ 2007 Exhibition in Prague, the world’s pre-eminent scenographic exhibition as well as one of the theater design community’s most important international events, celebrating innovations in theater design by exhibiting selected designs from dozens of countries.
