Portland Community College Cascade Campus
Hacker completed a Master Plan for PCC’s Cascade Campus. Located in the heart of Portland’s Humboldt neighborhood, Cascade is PCC’s true urban campus. As such, an extensive outreach effort with campus and neighborhood stakeholders was a key component in understanding the issues that contribute to developing a plan that meets the needs of a variety of constituents.
Utilizing existing surface parking lots the new plan allows the campus to grow within its existing boundaries to meet the demands of an increasing student population and provide educational opportunities to this vibrant and economically diverse neighborhood. The new plan builds upon an existing organizational framework that respects the city’s street grid and preserves the historic retail development on the adjacent NE Killingsworth Street commercial corridor.
The plan also included planning for a new Student Center and Academic Building that will continue the campus’ progression to the west creating new outdoor plazas which serve as anchor points to the existing campus “mall.” In addition, suggested renovations and additions to the existing Library and Student Services building will bring these facilities into the 21st century with a focus on technology, collaboration and diverse learning environments.
